It’s been a successful day!
Swam for an hour this morning as planned, keeping the 8 sessions a week up but not trying to flatten myself also.
The big test and turn around came in the afternoon session. I want to talk abit about race blues, as I have always been one to suffer from it.
I went to the pool for training this afternoon in low spirits, I was tired and still quite mentally drained from the weekend but I knew we had a hard session in the pool tonight.
Once we were told the session Mike said to the group ‘we’ve got a lot of tired bodies around and that’s fine but I don’t want to see anyone moping and wasting a session here’… it’s like he was in my head 🧐
That is when I went back to making it very simple for myself. With all the work I had done with my sport psych, Zeynep. We use this running question theme that I have felt really helps me get on with it when I’m tired. It’s goes like this:
‘How many times do you get tired?’ Many.
‘How many times, despite being tired, have you still done a good job?’ Many.
‘Do you need to be feeling good to swim fast?’ No.
This helps rationalise the issue at hand for me and turn it into less of an issue. Not everything has to be perfect to swim fast, it’s about getting the best out of yourself everyday no matter how you feel.
The rest of the day revolves around going to a coffee shop and doing a few hours of work after the morning session. Got a couple of exciting things that I’m working on at the moment and I can’t wait to build on them.
It’s amazing how much you develop at the start of a business, I have launched, yes. But… I still have so much to do and add to the website, update and build on. I’m really passionate about keeping that ball rolling!
Outside of the pool it’s been a relaxed day just chilling and keeping my body in as good a shape as possible. Bring on the next one!
